Independence Day Memories

Well, since it has been over a week now, it's probably time to record a few of our family's Independence Day memories.

We spent the day with a few of our favorite people (Pam & Nate!).  The day's plans were: parade, grill burgers for lunch at our home, and some games.  We also ended up fitting in a small medium-sized nap in there.

The parade was lots of fun for the boys.   We parked at the same location where we watched the fireworks (the night before) so they were a little nervous at first and asked several time to "make sure" there weren't going to be any large booming noises.

 Our parade location was very close to the start so they were able to watch the band "warm up" and drill-team practice.  

The boys didn't quite "get" the candy thing at first.  The knew they were supposed to go get it, but I don't think they fully understood what "it" was.  That is until a tootsie pop was found.  

Joseph was sooooooo excited and wanted it open ASAP.  He then spent the remainder of the parade (and a bit afterwards, too) enjoying that tootsie pop.  After that he only collected the candy that had a stick coming out of it.  {grin}

Benjamin also enjoyed a lollipop.  He was a little nervous about the tractor wheels moving nearby, but he loved the dogs & horses that came by.

The weather couldn't have been more perfect.

It was just perfect to be able to spend our day with each other.

I am blaming this one on the 11 o'clock bedtime followed by their 6:30 am wake up!

(The 6:30 wake up was their choice not mine!)

You mamas who have your "baby boys" in the 

military are special women!

Pure joy!  They never get these at home so it is a BIG deal!

Seriously, he was in love with that piece of sugar on the end of a stick!
