First of all, I just have to say that each stage I go through with you I swear is my favorite one.
I will probably say this again in three months, but I LOVE THIS AGE!
Joseph, Today You...
Love music. You still bop your head from side to side when you hear it. Last night you sat on the piano bench & played a little tune for Aunt Pam & Mommy. You were very gentle with the keys & looked like a tiny concert pianist!
*
Play with sticks or anything similar to a stick (broom, light saber, comb, etc.)
*
Are very afraid of vacuum noises. This include the real vacuum, my blow dryer (you cry now when you see them), and many kitchen appliances. You also are afraid of self-moving stuffed animals.
*
Love being outside & exploring new places. Today you cried when you realized we were leaving the park.
*
Can't be read to enough. You look at books by yourself and if Daddy or I sit down it is 100% likely that you will be bringing us a favorite book to share with you.
*
Are understanding simple commands & follow them. Like, "take your book to daddy," or "go get your sippy cup."
*
Know what things in the house are "no" and you remind yourself of that by saying "no" every time you go past those objects. Sometimes you obey yourself & sometimes you don't.
*
Are independent. One of many examples is that you don't like to hold mom or dad's hand when walking.
*
Point to things you want.
*
Rarely cuddle (unless we have a book), so I soak it up when you do.
*
Need your lovey bear & your paci to sleep.
*
Put your hand up to your ear & say "hello" every time you see or hear a phone (even at the grocery store).
*
Run, and you are trying to go down steps facing forward. You almost made it stepping off the curb this morning.
*
Know 20ish words. I will write more about this another day. You also babble to yourself in your own "language" all the time.
*
Run to your chair & pull it out when asked if you are hungry.
*
Love baths. When you hear the "word" bath you quickly climb the stairs to the bathroom.
*
Know how to sign "please," "eat," and "more." You almost know "drink" & I am trying to teach you "book."
*
Enjoy fabric & clothing. You like to get dressed & you try to dress yourself which results in all your clothes being hung around your neck.
*
Watch Daddy get ready for work. You find it fascinating & just follow him around staring.
Benjamin, Today You...
Are recovering from a hard month of teething & sickness.
*
Are timid about new things. You warm up to things, usually, but it takes a little time.
*
Love your Mommy more than anything else.
*
Like to walk around the house with your hands behind your back. Daddy calls is your "Singing in the Rain" pose because he thinks it looks like you are going to break out into a dance & music number at any moment.
*
Collect blankets. You gather them up from your bed, from around the house, or just out of the clean blanket drawer and make a nice little pile. They you sit in the middle of them as content as can be & very pleased with yourself. When you are in a silly mood you will walk around the house flapping these blankets in the air & laughing.
*
Are my cuddly baby. You snuggle in with your blankie & thumb after every nap.
*
Have a contagious giggle.
*
Know how to sign "eat." That is the important one, right?
*
Love being tossed in the air & hung upside down.
*
Sleep in this very uncomfortable, arched back, position.
*
Like any toys that involve putting something small into a container/puzzle/bag/ect., or things falling down. You like to stir small toys & laugh hysterically about it.
*
Enjoy toy balls. You say "ball" and throw them to see how they bounce. You have decide the kitchen is the best place to throw them.
*
Like to feed other people & put your toys in others' mouths. If you find Joseph's paci, you go find him & put it in his mouth.
*
Have a favorite word that you say all the time..."bubble." It is seriously one of the cutest things!
*
Give great big, arms around the neck, bear hugs. You have given them to mommy for a while, but just started giving them to Daddy & Aunt Pam.
*
Throw all your blankets out of your crib as soon as you wake up. Then you cry because you want them & can't get them.
*
Sometimes lay on your tummy kicking your feet while you play.
Today, You Both...
Empty my cupboards of the pots, pans, plastic containers, dishtowels, and anything else you can get to, hundreds of times a day.
*
Usually sleep 11 hours straight at night and take 2 naps of 30 minutes to 2 hours (the first nap is usually the short one, and the afternoon nap is usually around 90 minutes).
*
Eat 3 meals a day with some snacks. You both love dried fruit right now.
*
Always want to play with "real" phones. Daddy is easy & always gives you his cell phone (which you promptly fight over!).
*
Adore swinging at the park. You squeal & laugh with joy! Others at the park smile because of the joy you demonstrate.
*
Throw your cups on the floor after you are done with them. (Any moms have tips for stopping this???)
*
"Share" your food at meal times.
*
Fight over the toys you want. Benjamin wines & Joseph says "no."
*
Think your brother is the funniest person EVER. You laugh at each other's antics & if your brother is laughing (because mama is tickling him) you laugh.
*
Bring your Daddy & Mommy more joy than they ever could have imagined.

Debbi, thanks for this detailed post on Benjamin and Joseph. It greatly helps me to "visualize" the stage they are in. I hope when we come for Thanksgiving I will have an opportunity to read to them and maybe teach some more "sign" or go to the park, or revisit the "crawling game" I did with them in August. Or, maybe just give you a "day off" and do all of that! I am looking forward to seeing all of you very soon.
